Battersea Power Station is one of London’s most recognisable regeneration projects. They bring a landmark site back into active use through a mix of residential, commercial, retail and public spaces.
ARC UK had already been working with Battersea Power Station for more than seven years by this point. This support spanned plan and exhibition printing, marketing materials and environmental graphics. That existing relationship gave ARC UK a strong foundation when the opportunity came to tender for the Phase 3 wayfinding and signage package.
Phase 3 formed part of the wider residential development. It included 310 apartments within the Battersea Power Station complex. The signage needed to sit comfortably within a highly considered architectural environment. At the same time, it had to meet the practical, everyday needs of residents and visitors.

Battersea Power Station is one of London’s most recognisable regeneration projects. They bring a landmark site back to life through a mix of residential, commercial, retail and public spaces. ARC UK had already been working alongside the project for more than seven years by this point, supporting it with everything from plan and exhibition printing to marketing materials and environmental graphics. That long-standing relationship gave ARC UK a strong foundation when the opportunity came up to tender for the Phase 3 wayfinding and signage package.
Phase 3 formed part of the wider residential development and included 310 apartments within the Battersea Power Station complex. As a result, the signage needed to do two things at once: sit comfortably within a highly considered architectural environment, and meet the everyday, practical needs of residents and visitors.
In a high-end development like this, signage becomes part of the environment, not just a label on top of it. Material choices, proportions, finishes, and placement all shape how the space feels
ARC UK needed to develop a package that could balance several requirements:
The tender itself also brought a commercial challenge. ARC UK competed against three other signage companies in Q4 2022, making the quality of the proposed approach, technical capability and understanding of the project particularly important.
ARC UK approached the project as a complete signage package rather than a collection of individual products. The scope brought together design and consultancy, backlit fabricated signage, wayfinding acrylics and manifestations, allowing the different elements to work as one coordinated system.
A key part of the solution was collaboration. ARC UK worked with the architect and Battersea Power Station Development Company throughout the process, ensuring the proposed signage remained aligned with the project’s design intent and programme.
The team also prototyped each sign before production. This provided an opportunity to assess the physical interpretation of the designs and resolve details before they moved into full fabrication.
The result was a more controlled route from concept to finished installation, with design, technical development and production connected from the outset
The project began with a detailed review of the signage requirements and the wider architectural context. ARC UK worked alongside the project stakeholders to understand how the wayfinding package needed to function within Phase 3.
ARC UK’s team developed the required signage solutions, combining design thinking with practical technical knowledge. This included backlit fabricated signage, wayfinding acrylics and manifestations.
Rather than moving directly from drawings to production, ARC UK prototyped each sign. This helped the team assess the physical design and refine details before fabrication.
The signage was developed in close collaboration with the architect and Battersea Power Station Development Company. This ensured the finished solutions remained aligned with the intended aesthetic while meeting practical requirements.
Once the designs and prototypes were approved, ARC UK moved into fabrication and installation, delivering the first phase as part of the wider development programme.
The first phase successfully brought ARC UK’s signage expertise into a new area of its long-standing relationship with Battersea Power Station.
The project demonstrated that a partner already trusted for print and environmental graphics could also take responsibility for a specialist signage package from design through to installation.
For Battersea Power Station, that meant working with a team already familiar with the development and its requirements, while gaining access to ARC UK’s dedicated signage and wayfinding capabilities.
The first phase was awarded to ARC UK in January 2023 following the competitive tender process, with further opportunities expected across the wider development.
“We are extremely happy with the quality and finished result of the first phase. At Battersea we knew that ARC could manage our print requirements, but we had no idea that we could engage them for Signage & Wayfinding as well. It made sense to award ARC the Signage Contract as there is a long-standing relationship with ARC, as they have been on the Project for many years.”— Battersea Power Station
Complex architectural projects need more than a signage supplier. They need a partner who can understand the design intent, work through the technical detail and take responsibility for delivering the finished result.
ARC UK’s experience combines those capabilities across a single project journey:
For property developers, architects and contractors, that means fewer handovers between suppliers and a more connected route from initial concept to installation.
The Battersea Power Station project was built on an established relationship, but it also marked a new chapter in that partnership.
After more than seven years supporting the development with print, marketing materials and environmental graphics, ARC UK was given the opportunity to take on a specialist wayfinding and signage package.
By combining design, prototyping, fabrication and installation, ARC UK helped turn the architectural intent for Phase 3 into a considered signage experience for its 310 apartments.
It is a good example of what happens when an established project relationship grows into a broader partnership- one built on familiarity, technical capability and the confidence to take on more.
Whether you’re delivering a residential development, commercial fit-out or landmark architectural project, ARC UK can provide the design, fabrication and installation expertise needed to bring your signage vision to life.
