Opening a new retail store takes more than getting the doors ready on time. Before a single customer steps inside, the space around the store has to do some work of its own- building awareness, creating anticipation, and making sure people actually know where to go.
That was the brief when Space NK prepared to open its 81st retail outlet at Bluewater Shopping Centre. The beauty retailer was returning to Bluewater after a ten-year absence, and it needed a launch environment that felt every bit as premium as the brand itself. At the same time, it had to cut through the noise of one of the UK’s busiest shopping centres.
ARC UK was brought in to handle the graphics and branding for the launch- everything from the pre-opening hoarding through to illuminated signage, wayfinding and crowd control. It was a project with a lot of moving parts, all of which needed to come together around the new 2,760 sq ft store.

Space NK is one of the best-known names in beauty retail, home to more than 100 premium and niche brands under one roof.
For its return to Bluewater, the retailer chose a spot in the Lower Guildhall, near The White Company and Hobbs- good company, in a part of the centre that sees plenty of footfall. But being in the right location only helps if people actually notice you’re there, which means the visual awareness around the launch mattered just as much as the store itself.
The graphics couldn’t just carry the Space NK logo and call it done. They needed to stop people in their tracks, pull them toward the new location, and do it all while staying true to the brand’s clean and premium feel.
Here’s the tricky part of a launch like this- how do you make a brand-new store stand out in a shopping centre that’s already full of stimulus, without losing the understated, modern look Space NK is known for?
A few things needed to happen at once:
No single graphic application was going to tick all of these parameters. This called for multiple touchpoints across the centre, all pulling in the same direction as one connected brand experience.
ARC UK handled this project end to end- consultation, site survey, production and installation, all under one roof.
Rather than treat each element in isolation, the team built out a set of branded touchpoints that worked together: building visibility, guiding shoppers, and keeping the Space NK presence consistent across the whole centre.
From the hoarding wrap that greeted shoppers before the doors even opened, to the illuminated lightboxes and branded escalator graphics that followed, each piece added to the sense of anticipation building around the launch.
Building Anticipation Before Opening
The first chance to introduce Space NK’s new home at Bluewater came before there was even a store to see.
ARC UK wrapped the hoarding around the unit in a full vinyl finish, turning what would otherwise have been a dull construction barrier into a branded communication piece in its own right.
Rather than let the hoarding sit there as dead space, the wrap put it to work- building recognition and anticipation well ahead of opening day.
Creating High-Impact Brand Visibility
To get Space NK noticed across the shopping centre, ARC UK produced a series of large-format installations, including –
10 hanging banners, placed in high-footfall areas to maximise exposure.
5 wrapped pillars, dressed in custom vinyl to weave the Space NK identity into the centre’s own architecture.
2 large hanging lightboxes, each 3m x 5m, giving the launch illuminated, unmissable presence in key spots.
The lightboxes did a lot of heavy lifting here- they gave the launch a strong visual anchor and helped Space NK stand out in a centre that’s rarely short of competing brands.
Making the Store Easier to Find
Getting noticed is just half the job. Once shoppers knew Space NK had arrived, they still needed a clear path to the door.
ARC UK installed 2 sets of escalator graphics, using branded panels to point shoppers toward the new store while keeping the look consistent with everything else in the campaign.
Alongside that, 3 circular floor vinyles, each 600 mm across, were placed at key points through the centre to guide people along the route to the launch.
Together, these pieces tied the wider shopping centre back to the new store, so the journey felt joined-up rather than disconnected.
Combining Branding with Practical Crowd Control
A launch like this also has to work on the ground, not just look good on paper. The space had to handle real crowds without losing the polish that Space NK is known for.
ARC UK supplied 7 premium roller crowd barriers- a practical solution for managing the day, but one that didn’t clash with the branded environment around it.
Managing the Project from Consultation to Installation
With this many formats, locations and moving parts, coordination was the thing that held in all together.
ARC UK managed the project from start to finish- consultation, site surveying, production and installation- so that every element landed as part of one cohesive launch, rather than a series of separate jobs.
Once complete, the graphics turned the space around the new Space NK store into a genuinely branded environment — one built to lift the customer experience and build excitement ahead of opening.
Between the illuminated lightboxes, the hanging banners, the wrapped pillars, and the escalator and floor graphics, Space NK had a strong, consistent visual presence across the centre.
At the same time, the wayfinding elements kept shoppers moving in the right direction, while the roller crowd barriers handled the practical side of launch day without undercutting the aesthetic.
The end result was a launch that carried the Space NK brand well beyond the store itself, giving shoppers a smoother, more connected journey from the wider centre right through to the new store.
A retail launch that actually lands needs more than a stack of individual graphics. It needs creative execution, technical planning and on-site delivery working together, not in isolation.
ARC UK brings all of that together under one roof, helping brands build consistent experiences across stores, shopping centres and other customer-facing spaces.
Our capabilities include:
For retailers opening new locations, having one partner who can manage the full mix of visual and practical requirements is often what separates a genuinely cohesive brand experience from a collection of unrelated graphics.
Space NK’s return to Bluewater was a chance to make a real first impression.
From the pre-opening hoarding to the illuminated lightboxes, the branded pillars, and the escalator and floor graphics, every piece played its part in building visibility and connecting the launch to the wider shopping centre around it.
By bringing it all together through one coordinated process, ARC UK helped Space NK create a launch environment that was premium, easy to navigate, and built to draw customers straight to its new Bluewater store.
Whether you’re opening a new store, refreshing an existing one, or planning a high-impact retail campaign, ARC UK can bring together the graphics, branding, wayfinding and installation expertise needed to turn your vision into a complete customer experience.
